___

A map of the city in the very heart of Europe was taken, a plan of the city in which we live – Prague – was laid out on the table:

___

Black line shows limits of the smallest metropolis in the world:

___

The largest possible circle that fits into these limits was found and delineated:

___

The circle stands for a map of the sky with seven zodiac constellation that can be observed during the whole year on the northern hemisphere: Virgo, Leo, Taurus, Aries, Gemini, Pisces and Cancer:

___

The map of the sky was superposed on a circular selection of the map of Prague:

___

Seven most lucent stars of the constellations pointed out seven “ears” of zodiac – places of the film shooting. We have found Heaven on the Earth:

___

Why “ears”? We wanted to create a sound and image “map” of our city, that would somehow reflect the star order, that would somehow put the Heaven on the Earth. We had a microphone, 8mm camera and two ThereminVoxes, that we used as a genius loci catchers.

___

What is a ThereminVox? It is a first fully electric musical instrument, first synthesizer constructed by L. S. There-min in the earaly years of newly estabilished bolshevic Soviet Union. The machine was originally designed as a sensor of a movement in the space. It works on base of radio waves and thus sometimes catches not only the changes of radio field caused by any object but re-gular radio as well.

___

Using long wires we accomodated slightly the instruments for functioning more like “space catchers”. We created a film about Prague outskirts. The soundtrack of the film consists of interviews, city stmospheres, accidentally captured radio transmissions and mainly ThereminVox sound that differs on those seven “starly determinated” places.
