CAS: What Is It?

group exhibition, Galerie Futura, Prague, 2013

This exhibition belongs to a longer line of work in which film and image exist side by side. Sometimes an image reflects a film, sometimes it carries something that never enters it. Sometimes a film contains what no image can hold.

What forms between them is a way of thinking in two different materials. Film unfolds through sequence and time. An image remains in surface and matter. It can be touched, returned to, physically kept. Film escapes the hand. The image stays.

It is also a practical relation. Paper allows immediacy, touch, and repetition. Film demands waiting, cost, and trust. Between them, another kind of life appears. Included in the exhibition is the montage plan for the film Ultimum Refugium (80 × 150 cm), where film appears as a spatial and material structure. The work was later shown again as part of the solo exhibition Montage Plan Set on Its Side.

Translation of poster text:

Film – a living swaying. A swaying between eternity and materiality, which differ only by the hook of a bird whose voice is at stake. Is it approaching or retreating? “I am moving away from you towards you…” Through this, film creates You.
