They Said... / Cekli...
duo exhibition, Galerie 35m2, Prague, 2015
curated by Michal Pěchouček
This exhibition presented Marie Ladrová and Ondřej Vavrečka as a creative duo in their third joint project. Coming from different but closely communicating fields, visual art and film, they approached installation as a space in which the distinction between still and moving image, between dynamism and stasis, and between the living and the non-living could be suspended. Their works unfolded through layered symbolic constellations, giving equal weight to craftsmanship and technology, and allowing perception to move between sight, touch, and hearing.
For Galerie 35m2, they created a group of works composed of negative photograms, objects made from tinder fungus, large-scale watercolours, and technical models. Through these materials, they developed post-futurist narratives concerned with the pressure of incompatible environments on the human being, with endless processes of mutual influence, and with the desire for a restored bond or even a state of total symbiosis. Rather than confronting the viewer aggressively, the exhibition turned toward dreams, ceremony, and a subtly neo-Baroque artificiality. What emerged was a techno-biological optimism grounded in the belief that art may still serve as a source of self-knowledge.
