We live from what we have inherited. What is worth carrying forward, what must be left behind, and what still needs to be created?

A radically gentle film 1 + 1 + 1 begins from things that have remained to us from previous generations. They shape how we touch, how we speak, what we use. But which of them are worth preserving, and which should be replaced with new ones? How do the old and the new meet in everyday life, in intimate situations, and in social relationships? The film places images, voices, and presences side by side and develops a tension between past and future. Its title and structure refer to the principle of accumulation: one element is added to another, and the film is carried by three characters. It records its images on durable 16mm film stock, which appears outdated in an increasingly digital culture. Alongside actors and songs, writers, philosophers, and intellectuals from across Europe appear in the film.
